Step inside the stations where a generation of DJs and MCs shaped a city.

 

The Birmingham Story is a VR experience and live event that brings the foundations of our music culture back to life - the raw sets, the illegal frequencies, the clashes, the mystery, the passion and the voices that turned local talent into legacy.

 

Through virtual reality headsets, you’ll stand inside a reconstructed pirate-radio station, surrounded by the artists who built it. You’ll hear the bars, feel the energy and experience the era the same way it happened - up close and unfiltered. 

 

Alongside the VR experience, the event features:

 

• Live grime sets

• Archival footage and unseen stories (in partnership with Birmingham Mic Controllers and Awful Lotta Birmingham)

• Limited pre-orders of SUREN garments that unlock Suren fm

 

 

This night is about honouring the ones who came before us and celebrating the ones that are carrying the scene now, documenting what hasn’t been documented and bringing the city together through culture, innovation and storytelling.
